Medical
The medical section focuses on how SA exacerbates physical health. A reduction in this score would indicate that the client’s physical symptoms improved.
Employment and Support
This section addresses the client’s ability to keep and maintain employment and care for self and/or family. Case Management support may be indicated for a client with high admission scores. A reduction in this score indicates that the client shows progress towards sustaining gainful employment and financial stability.
Drug
This section evaluates lifetime as well as recent use, consequences of use, prior treatment, and times of abstinence. A reduction in scores in either of these sections indicates that the client is able to maintain sobriety, reduce the impact of use on functioning, and was successful in treatment.
Alcohol
This section evaluates lifetime as well as recent use, consequences of use, prior treatment, and times of abstinence. A reduction in scores in either of these sections indicates that the client is able to maintain sobriety, reduce the impact of use on functioning, and was successful in treatment.
Legal Status
This section addresses the impact of criminal legal issues on the client’s functioning. A reduction in this score will indicate that the client is able to manage their legal problems with less disruption.
Family & Social Status
This section is intended to provide information on the client’s social activities with family and friends. It helps with determining support systems that the client has available to them. Case Management interventions during treatment can help the client to establish more healthy and supportive resources and would lead to a reduction in this score.
Psychiatric
This section helps determine co-occurring mental health issues that the client has either from past diagnosis or new diagnosis of a mental health condition. This will help with determining the impact that psychiatric conditions have on overall treatment and functioning. Case management can assist with referrals for ongoing mental health needs. A change in this score could indicate a new diagnosis (an increased in score) or the client’s ability to manage their mental health issues with less impact on functioning (a decrease in score).
The Ohio Risk Assessment System Community Supervision Tool (ORAS-CST) is designed to be used with offenders in the community. This can include those on probation or parole, as well as offenders in residential facilities and other community alternatives (such as day reporting centers). The instrument was designed to be administered through file review and a structured interview, although some items can be obtained through a self-report questionnaire. The CST consists of 35 items across seven domains:
The final score is a summed product of each of the individual items creating a range between 0 and 49. The higher the score, the greater the risk the individual poses.
