SAGE Counseling, which was founded in 1998, is licensed by Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) to provide individual, family, and group counseling. Our primary focus is serving clients who are referred by the criminal justice system and the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS). We provide outpatient services locations throughout Arizona, in clients’ homes, and in detention facilities.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Jails
SAGE has 5 contracts with MCSO for programs in their jails:
- Cognitive Restructuring
- Anger Management
- Inmate Skills Building
- Parenting.
We use the well-known curriculum, “Thinking for a Change,” in much of our work in the jails. The groups that may be referred are juvenile females, juvenile males, adult females and adult males. Clients are from MCSO’s Custody Support Inmate Program Division.
SAGE Counseling provides community-based transitional services for released inmates in Arizona. We have multiple offices throughout Maricopa County, as well as offices in Tucson, Flagstaff, Yuma, Prescott Valley, Kingman, Casa Grande, Cottonwood, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City, and Payson.
Re-entry services at SAGE generally include assessment, case management, mentoring, and counseling. We serve a wide range of offenders and provide assistance with employment, educational/vocational training, obtaining food boxes, mental health/medical services, medication needs, public assistance programs, faith based services, twelve step groups, housing needs, and literacy tutoring.
SAGE provides intensive crisis-oriented services to families referred by the Arizona Department of Child Safety whose children are at risk for out-of-home placements due to abuse or neglect. A primary goal of this program is to support referred families so that their children can safely remain in their home. SAGE provides counseling (individual, family, and marital therapy); communication skills; parenting skills training; home management skills; job readiness training; case management; and linkages to community resources. SAGE's two-person teams frequently visit these families in their homes, and provide the resources and interventions necessary to stabilize these families and enhance their safety.
SAGE provides Family Support, Preservation and Reunification Services, also known as the In Home Services Program that assists in supporting and enhancing the family unit, and preserving and reunifying the family through a continuum of family centered services that are comprehensive, coordinated, community based, accessible and culturally responsive. Services are provided in the child’s current and transitional placement, or in Arizona Department of Child Safety offices. Services are referral driven and are for children and their families who are receiving services due to a report of child abuse or neglect, or for children and families who have a potential risk of abuse or neglect. The focus of this service is to improve the safety and well-being of families, enhance family functioning, increase competence in parenting abilities, foster a sense of self-reliance, reduce risk factors, increase protective factors and stabilize families.
This service provides goal oriented, time limited (usually 60-120 days), in home crisis and supportive intervention specifically tailored to the family’s needs. The services may include: parent education, counseling, communication skills, domestic violence intervention and/or education, behavioral management/modification, home management skills, and development of linkages to family resources.
There are three main components:
- Intensive Family Preservation – to provide crisis oriented activities where conditions represent a threat to child safety and whose children are at significant risk of out-of-home placement due to abuse and/or neglect in order to allow those children to safely remain in their home.
- Moderate Level – to provide services where conditions represent no safety threat, but to a high to moderate risk of abuse and/or neglect, in order to allow those children to safely remain in their home.
- Family Reunification and Placement Stabilization – to safely expedite the return of children who are in out of home placement or in voluntary foster care back to their family.
SAGE provides assessment, individual, and group counseling services to clients who are referred through the criminal justice system.
