SAGE Counseling has two programs for incarcerated individuals: at Perryville Prison and at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Jails.

Perryville Women’s Prison
SAGE provides professional standardized On-Site Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment and Educational Services for adult female inmates convicted of Driving Under the Influence. The core program is an Addiction Treatment Curriculum that uses a cognitive behavioral approach.  These programs are gender-responsive to female inmates and have established measurable objectives.

SAGE’s services include:

• Individualized Assessments
• 20 hours of DUI Education
• 24 hours of DUI Treatment Groups
• 76 hours of Moderate Substance Abuse Treatment – for inmates at a moderate risk of recidivism
• 176 hours of Extended Substance Abuse Treatment - for inmates at a high risk of recidivism.
• Having a defined aftercare /relapse prevention plan for each inmate.

SAGE has 5 contracts with MCSO for programs in their jails:

• Cognitive Restructuring
• Anger Management
• Crisis Counseling
• Inmate Skills Building
• Parenting.

We use the well-known (excellent?) curriculum, “Thinking for a Change,” in much of our work in the jails. The groups that may be referred are juvenile females, juvenile males, adult females and adult males. Clients are from MCSO’s Custody Support Inmate Program Division.

SAGE provides weekly or semiweekly cognitive restructuring open-ended group therapy and curriculum based services for participants.  Groups are based on the Franklin Realty Model.

Sessions are 120 minutes long.

Anger Management

SAGE provides weekly or semiweekly group therapy and curriculum based educational services for Anger Management groups.  Groups run a maximum of 48 weeks.

Client groups are 60-120 minutes in length.

SAGE provides individual and group therapy services. We also provide crisis on call services, and we must respond within 24 hours, including weekends and holidays.

Our goals with the inmates are to:

1. Stabilize and/or alleviate the inmates’ specific crisis situation
2. Support their return to their previous level of functioning
3. Facilitate their return to, and success in, the programs in which they were participating
4. Assist in improving their overall functioning by teaching them coping skills that address the current problem and can also be utilized with future stressors and problems
5. Support skill development that enhances pro-social functioning
6. Report our findings, interventions, and recommendations to the appropriate MCSO staff.

Inmate Skills Building

SAGE provides weekly or semiweekly group therapy and curriculum based services for Employment Skills Building groups.

We provide four-week groups with five sessions per week of employment education over a maximum 50-week period of time.  Sessions are at least 120 minutes long.  There is a structured curriculum with.

We emphasize job retention skills - the life management and interpersonal skills necessary to thrive in the job environment.

Parenting
SAGE delivers Parenting Group Therapy Services for referrals from the Adult and Juvenile Program. Curriculum subject matter includes:

• Controlling Anger and Stress
